Discipleship

Small groups give us opportunities to learn from each other (Proverbs 27:17). We need Christian friends to challenge us as we apply God’s word to our everyday lives (Heb 3:12-13). As our relationships deepen so do opportunities for mutual edification (Heb 10:24).

Bible Study

We don’t raise our hands to ask questions in the middle of a sermon, but you can in a small group. Small groups are great places to ask questions and search God’s word together just like the Bereans in Acts 17:11. Groups study books of the bible, read books on Christian living, and watch Christian teaching videos.

Prayer

In the New Testament, praying together was a regular part of community life (Acts 4:24).  Small groups pray for each other’s specific needs and those of the broader community.  Praying together also helps us come to the throne of grace through praise, thanksgiving, and worship.

Fellowship

It can be hard to really connect in a large group setting. Small groups are a great place for people to get to know each other. We really do need each other (Rom 12:4-5). Our mutual bond with Christ unites us together with other believers in a way that expresses itself in affectionate fellowship (Eph 2:19-22).

Care

Small groups are places to help each other with needs and concerns (Phil 2:4). Galatians 6:2 directs us to “bear each other’s burdens.” Our care for each other reflects God’s care and love for us.
